HERITAGE & Founder STORY
Our story began...
In the 1970s, our founder’s grandfather travelled frequently for work between Bombay (now Mumbai), Calcutta (now Kolkata), and Delhi, carrying metal trunks, called Peti(s) and suitcases, filled with documents, dreams, and determination.
In her family, bags were never just accessories or used for storage, they were companions of purpose, the journeys, the stories.
Her grandmother collected luggage trunks and suitcases, her mother loved beautiful bags, and creativity quietly lived and expressed through them in their home
Years later, during visits to her native place in Rajasthan, a land known for its rich craftsmanship and deep connection to leather and craft. She saw a few pieces at her ancestral home and found herself surrounded by traditional trunks, handmade goods, and materials that had survived decades. From metal peti(s) to handcrafted leather carriers, these objects reflected patience, skill, durability and respect for material.
It was there that she realised that true luxury is built to last.
Around the same time, while exploring her own career path, our founder noticed something striking. Her brother, a management consultant, was searching for a reliable work bag and almost every options available in India was either international, mass-produced, or made from materials that did not last
With a background in leather design and a deep respect for Indian craftsmanship, our founder began to notice something important.
India had a legacy of extraordinary artisans.
It had decades of craftsmanship. Basically the skill was here.
It has been one of the largest exporters of leather goods for the world's biggest global luxury houses for generations.
Yet, when it came to global Indian luxury work-and-travel bags for modern professionals, there was a gap as she wanted something different and it inspired her to build what she couldn’t find. Bags that could move effortlessly from meetings to airports to evenings, without compromise. Bags that balanced elegance, function, and durability. Bags that would age beautifully and travel with you.
That realisation became Modo Italy, a homegrown luxury brand offering long-lasting and functionally engineered leather products for global executives, entrepreneurs, and modern professionals.
